Nepal’s embassy in Dhaka has advised Nepali students to remain indoors and heed the guidance of their universities following escalating protests over the government job quota system in Bangladesh. This advisory comes after the Bangladeshi government decided to close all public and private universities in response to student demonstrations. The protests have turned violent, with reports indicating that six people were killed on Tuesday.

The embassy’s advisory urges students to contact the embassy if their university administrators recommend relocating for safety or if their current living conditions become unsafe. The statement emphasizes the importance of staying indoors and following instructions from educational institutions.

Additionally, the embassy reassured students that it is closely monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with relevant government agencies and college officials to ensure their safety.

The protests in Bangladesh stem from dissatisfaction with a quota system that allocates a significant number of civil service positions to specific groups, including descendants of participants in the 1971 war of independence against Pakistan.

For assistance, the embassy provided two contact numbers: Yojana Bamjan, second secretary, at +8801880691013 and Riya Chhetri at +8801745407958.
