China blames US for collapse of Arms Control Talks

China has placed full responsibility on the US for the halt in the new round of arms control and non-proliferation talks, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday. During a regular press briefing, spokesperson Lin Jian addressed accusations from US officials that China was unwilling to engage in these discussions.

Lin emphasized that despite China’s strong opposition and repeated objections, the US has continued to sell arms to Taiwan. These actions, Lin noted, severely harm China’s core interests and erode mutual trust, thus damaging the political environment necessary for ongoing arms control talks, according to source.

Because of this, China has decided to suspend the talks with the US on arms control and non-proliferation. The US is entirely to blame for this situation, Lin stated.

Lin also mentioned that China remains open to communicating with the US on international arms control issues based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation. However, Lin stressed that the US must respect China’s core interests and create favorable conditions for dialogue and exchanges between the two nations.
