In a bold stance against government measures, the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) on Wednesday, has strongly criticized the state government’s decision to slash scholarships meant for Scheduled Caste (SC) children.
AIDSO State Secretary, Ajay Kamath, issued a press statement in Bengaluru by denouncing the state government’s move as a betrayal of economically disadvantaged students. The organization expressed dismay over the reduction in essential scholarship support that SC students rely on for their education.
Specifically, AIDSO condemned the imposition of a 6 lakh rupees income limit, which restricts deserving SC students who excelled in SSLC exams with first-class marks on their first attempt. This decision, according to AIDSO, unfairly hampers the educational opportunities of meritorious SC students.
AIDSO also highlighted what it perceives as contradictory government actions. While funds designated for SC/ST students are diverted towards guarantee schemes, the state has simultaneously cut back on scholarships crucial for these students’ academic pursuits. This action, AIDSO argues, exposes the government’s indifferent attitude towards economically underprivileged yet academically talented students.
The organization has vehemently demanded the immediate reinstatement of these scholarships, which it describes as meager yet indispensable for SC students pursuing higher education. AIDSO urges the government to reconsider its stance and prioritize the educational welfare of SC children.
