Union State Minister for Railways and Jalshakti, V Somanna performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the development of the war memorial at Kadri north ward within the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits. This project is being developed with a special grant of Rs 25 lakh from MLA D Vedavyas Kamath.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Somanna emphasised the honour and privilege bestowed upon the local representatives to develop a memorial in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country. He highlighted that the development of the War Memorial is a noble cause and announced his personal contribution of Rs 1 lac, equivalent to his one-month salary, towards the project.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath, in his address, remarked that soldiers are the pride of the nation and their sacrifices are unparalleled. He stressed the responsibility of everyone to honour the soldiers and assured that the project would be completed on a priority basis.
The event was attended by MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, MLAs D Vedavyas Kamath and Harish Poonja, Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur, Ramesh Kandetthu, Ravishankar Mijar, Nitin Kumar, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Ashwith Kottari, Kamalakshi, Kusuma Devadiga, Sandhya Venkatesh, former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, MCC members, President of the Ex-servicemen’s Association Srikantk, and many prominent BJP leaders.
