Mangaluru

The Mangaluru City police have been accused by members of the Hindu Mahila Suraksha Samiti of denying permission for their planned protest against love jihad in the city. Srilakshmi Matadamoole, leader of the Samiti, informed media personnel that they intended to hold the protest in front of the taluk panchayat office on Monday. Their objective was to urge the government to take strict action against ‘love jihad’, religious conversion, terrorism, and drug trafficking in coastal districts.

Matadamoole expressed concern that fanatics are attempting to ensnare Hindu women from Dakshina Kannada, Kasaragod, and Udupi districts through fraudulent romantic relationships. She criticized the city police for denying permission, alleging pressure behind the decision to stifle their voices.

Advocate Harish Kumar stated that the police have violated the women’s right to protest. He emphasized that every citizen has the constitutional right to protest, but the city police denied permission, citing that protests targeting specific communities are not permissible. Kumar clarified that their protest aims to raise awareness among Hindus and is not directed against any public policy or community.

Regarding potential law and order issues, Kumar mentioned that the police may issue notices if disturbances occur during the protest. BJP functionary Roopa Bangera mentioned that the Samiti has postponed the protest but intends to hold it soon to protest against such unlawful activities in society.
