Renovation Underway For KIAs Air Traffic Control

Must read

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru is undergoing a significant renovation aimed at modernizing its facilities to accommodate future air traffic growth. Managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the ATC has been operational since the first flight landed at KIA on May 24, 2008.

Currently located near Terminal 1, the ATC manages between 720 to 730 air traffic operations daily. With expectations of increased air traffic in the future, preparations are being made to ensure the ATC meets future demands. An airport spokesperson disclosed plans for constructing a new ATC tower adjacent to the airport, where operations from the current ATC will eventually be shifted. Following this relocation, the existing ATC will undergo complete renovation and upgrade, estimated to cost approximately Rs 200 crore. The renovation project is projected to take between 6 months to 1 year to complete. Despite the ongoing modernization efforts, the current ATC is reported to be in good condition and capable of functioning effectively for another 10 to 12 years.
