On Friday, Hyundai Motor and its labor union came to an agreement to bring on 1,100 additional production employees by 2026.

The tenth round of salary and working conditions negotiations took place at the company’s Ulsan facility, 299 kilometers southeast of Seoul, and resulted in an agreement, according to source.

Earlier, the two parties had decided to bring on 300 more production employees for the upcoming year.

They decided on Friday to add 500 more employees to the company’s facility for the upcoming year and another 300 in 2026.

In light of the fact that the firm plans to open a new electric car factory in Ulsan in 2025 and that about 2,000 production workers retire annually, the union has been calling for an increase in recruiting.

Following the breakdown of the annual salary discussions earlier this week, nearly 90% of unionized workers voted in favor of a walkout. This prompted the latest round of talks.

The union is still debating whether or not to go ahead with the strike.

The walkout would be the company’s first in six years if it were to take place.

The union representing Hyundai Motor has not staged a walkout in the last five years, despite a number of causes like the Covid-19 outbreak and problems with national commerce.
