At one point, Sara Ali Khan spoke candidly about who she really is. Even before she made her acting debut, she left a lasting impression on audiences when she and her father Saif Ali Khan went on camera together for a Koffee with Karan episode.
With time, Sara’s social media presence became increasingly different from the movie roles she selected, exposing a glaring contradiction between her public persona and her acting decisions.
Sara noted in an interview with Film Companion that many were perplexed by her shifting social media persona and interview style because they had witnessed her unadulterated version of herself early in her career. Sara acknowledged that she had failed herself.
When I tried to do something that didn’t necessarily come from the heart, people saw right through me, she said. You are then making yourself vulnerable to comparison. Because very early in my career, I presented the public, the media, and people in general with a really pure and honest version of myself.
I started feeling very empty, she continued. I began to feel really disappointed in myself.
Sara said she used to rely more on her gut when making judgments, but with time, she noticed that she was becoming more cerebral and relying more on thoughtful consideration and analysis.
And I realized that was not working for me, to start with, she continued. So how can you cut through the cacophony, if you ask me? I’m not sure, but I do know that your body will let you know when you’re not being real.
