At Pasni Zero Point in Balochistan, Pakistan, on Thursday, relatives of missing student Bahadur Bashir organized a demonstration. According to a source, Pakistani security personnel opened fire on them. During the rally, a number of protesters—including women and children—were hurt by the actions of security forces.

When Bahadur Bashir, a student at Karachi University, went to see his family in Pasni for Eid, he was arrested by security personnel. For several days, the family has been demanding his release. But after the authorities pledged to free the victim, the protest was just put off.

The Makran Coastal Highway was blocked and traffic was backed up at Pasni Zero Point as a result of the authorities’ failure to honor their promise to free Bashir. The Balochistan Post claimed that security personnel allegedly tried to clear the demonstrators’ blockade of the highway by forcibly removing them.

They attempted to take the demonstrators’ phones and charged them with batons. The source, which cited local sources, stated that the conduct caused injuries to several ladies. Protesters said that the police had given them a pretext to scatter them.

Protesters said that security personnel had to open the highway so that an ambulance transporting a seriously ill patient could pass, according to a source. But the police retaliated with baton charges and an attempt to seize the demonstrators’ phones when they demanded to see the patient and the ambulance. The demonstrators claimed that neither the patient nor the ambulance was on the road.
