People were reluctant to pay property tax under the Municipal Corporation. But the corporation has come up with an innovative scheme for tax collection. 5 percent exemption has been given to tax payers. Apart from that, arrangements have been made to pay taxes in three zonal offices of the corporation. As a result, people are paying taxes with great enthusiasm.
The state government had issued an order giving a discount of 5 percent to the owners who have not paid property tax since the month of April. The City Corporation has been experimenting with this weapon many times and the experiment has yielded results. Due to this, crores of taxes have flowed into the government’s coffers. This tax exemption has been extended till July 31.
Till date, 55 percent tax has been collected in the offices under the corporation. This much progress has been possible because of tax exemption. There are a total of 66,868 properties in the three zones and a tax collection of Rs 22 crore. Efforts have been made to collect the remaining 18 crores of tax, Corporation Commissioner Renuka informed.
