The Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE) and the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER) have partnered to enhance the Indian Army’s technological prowess. According to the Ministry of Electronics & IT, this collaboration will establish an ‘Advanced Military Research and Incubation Centre’ at MCTE, focusing on cutting-edge wireless technologies.

SAMEER, an autonomous R&D lab under the IT Ministry, will work with MCTE on joint research and development. Their combined expertise will cover 5G and 6G technologies, advanced cellular systems, software-defined and cognitive radios, satellite communications, antenna design, free space optics, tropo-scatter communications, AI, quantum computing, and military-specific chip design.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Lt Gen K H Gawas, Commandant of MCTE, and Dr. P.H. Rao, Director General of SAMEER, in the presence of senior officials. The IT Ministry highlighted that this initiative is a significant step toward strengthening the Indian Army’s technological capabilities, aligning with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision of 2024 as the ‘Year of Technological Absorption for the Indian Army.’

This partnership is dedicated to exploring new technological frontiers and addressing modern battlefield challenges. The incubation center will support innovative military-specific solutions, from concept to large-scale production, involving MSMEs and startups. Additionally, the MoU aims to foster knowledge exchange, training, and development.

The collaboration is expected to enhance national security and technological infrastructure, benefiting not only the military but also broader sectors.
