A dacoity occurred at the residence of Padnabham Kotian, a Public Works Department contractor, in the Ullayabettu area within Mangaluru rural limits late in the evening on Friday. The incident took place between 7:45 and 8:10 PM, when a group of 8 to 9 masked assailants forced their way into the house.
The intruders, all clad in shirts and pants, threatened the family members with knives, demanding cash. They tied up the family using bedsheets and ransacked the house in search of valuables. The robbers made off with whatever cash and gold they could find. In addition to the stolen goods, the dacoits also took the family’s vehicle, which was later found abandoned a short distance from the residence. During the incident, Padnabham Kotian sustained an injury to his right hand after being attacked with a knife. He was immediately rushed to KMC Hospital in the city for treatment.
