AIADMK members in the Tamil Nadu Assembly were temporarily evicted on Friday after attempting to raise an issue during Question Hour. However, their eviction was quickly overturned following an appeal by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
Leader of Opposition K. Palaniswami stated that the party intended to discuss the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, which he claimed resulted in 50 deaths, but permission was denied. Palaniswami condemned the eviction, calling it a murder of democracy.
Speaker M. Appavu explained that raising issues during Question Hour violated House rules, as such matters should be addressed during Zero Hour, after Question Hour concludes. When AIADMK members persisted, the Speaker ordered their eviction and ruled that they could not attend the day’s proceedings.
Outside the House, Palaniswami reiterated his desire to highlight the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy. Following this, CM Stalin requested the Speaker to allow the opposition members to participate in the session. Appavu accepted this request and invited the AIADMK MLAs back into the Assembly.
Earlier, the opposition party MLAs, including Palaniswami, attended the Assembly wearing black shirts in protest.
