Bengaluru Students Learn Beach Cleanliness Lesson

Must read

A group of students from Bengaluru faced a practical lesson in environmental responsibility on Gokarna Beach, administered by the Kumata Coast Guard Police after reports of inappropriate behavior.

Gokarna, famed for its picturesque coastline, saw local residents alerting authorities on youths engaged in smoking and alcohol consumption on the beach. Responding swiftly, Gokarna Coastal Police intervened, escorting the students—identified as attendees from an undisclosed private college in Bangalore—to the station for questioning.

Subsequent inquiries revealed the group, accompanied by their principal, had arrived on a trip to enjoy the coastal scenery. In a bid to educate and instill civic sense, police officials summoned the college principal and proposed a unique resolution: the students would undertake a beach cleaning activity.

Under the guidance of the Coastal Police Sub-Inspector, the students diligently cleaned the beach for over an hour, meticulously clearing glass shards, beer cans, plastic waste, and other debris. Gokarna Panchayat officials applauded their efforts, noting the removal of more than 50 kilograms of waste.

Authorities stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness at tourist spots and announced that similar community service would be mandated for any future violations. This initiative aims to foster a culture of environmental stewardship among visitors, ensuring the preservation of Gokarna’s natural beauty for all to enjoy.
