A convict serving a life sentence, who had been missing for over a year after being granted parole, was apprehended by Delhi Police in Guwahati, Assam, officials reported on Sunday.

The case dates back to April 19, 2008, when Nitin Verma (42) was convicted and sentenced for a triple murder in Palam Village, Delhi. The incident involved the brutal killing of two women and a man with a sharp weapon, motivated reportedly by an extramarital affair involving Verma. Despite the murders, no items or jewelry were stolen from the crime scene.

Verma’s son, also injured during the incident, was admitted to DDU Hospital. The police investigation subsequently led to Verma’s arrest and conviction, and he was serving his sentence until he was granted parole.

After his release on parole, Verma went missing for over a year. The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch from New Delhi Range, RK Puram, was tasked with locating him. During their investigation, it was discovered that Verma had relocated to Palam Colony and was working in Daryaganj. However, by the time police reached his suspected location, he had fled to Guwahati, frequently changing his mobile phones, SIM cards, and hiding places to avoid capture.

The Crime Branch team conducted multiple raids in Guwahati, leading to Verma’s arrest. He confessed to his involvement in the triple murder case and was charged accordingly under the law.
