City Police conducted a massive operation and seized 10 kg of ganja and arrested four accused. The four accused were caught by the police while illegally transporting ganja on the over bridge near Haveri railway station. The arrested have been identified as Dilleppa Mallappa Alalageri, Farooq Ahmed Kunchuru, Ismail Nadaf and Sahil Karjagi.
The accused were carrying dried ghatu-smelling ganja mixed with the flower, bud and seed of ganja which is available at low price in the state of Odisha. He used to sell it to the customers in packets of different grams. The seized ganja was about 9,900 grams, worth Rs 7.91 lakh. The police have also seized four mobile phones used by the accused.
Additional Superintendent of Police C Gopal said, Ganja cultivation has been severely curtailed in the state. Against this background, the accused from other states buy ganja and bring it to the state and sell it. Similarly, the four accused from Haveri bought ganja at a low price from Odisha and brought it to Haveri by train to sell it to retail customers. Acting on certain information, the CPI of Haveri city police station Motilal Pawar and his team raided and seized ganja. Also, four accused were arrested and four mobile phones were seized from them, he informed. Additional Superintended of Police Gopal congratulated the personnel who conducted the operation.
