In response to Rajasthan’s ongoing heatwave, the government plans to plant six lakh saplings across the state. Mines Secretary Anandhi announced that over five lakh saplings will be planted in the mining sector during the monsoon season. Each departmental office will have an assigned officer to oversee the plantation, while Additional Director of Environment and Development Deepak Tanwar will monitor the overall drive.
Anandhi emphasized the Department of Mines & Geology’s responsibility for environmental protection due to its involvement in mining activities. In every district, at least one completed mining site will be backfilled and transformed with extensive tree plantations.
Additionally, the Medical and Health Department will launch the ‘Hari-Van’ tree plantation campaign in all state medical institutions. According to Additional Chief Secretary Shubhra Singh, about one lakh saplings will be planted between July 1 and July 31, 2024. The goal is to enhance the environment and increase greenery at medical facilities.
Singh detailed that five saplings will be planted at community health centers and smaller institutions, while higher medical institutions will receive ten saplings each. Director of Public Health Dr. Ravi Prakash Mathur stated that each institution will be responsible for the maintenance, watering, and security of the plants for five years, with regular reviews and progress reports submitted to the Directorate.
