‘Megalopolis’ Crew Members Accuse Director Coppola Of Mismanagement, Trying To Kiss Extras On Set

Must read

Several crew members of Francis Ford Coppola’s Cannes-bound film Megalopolis have accused the veteran director of inappropriate behavior, including trying to kiss topless female extras and causing long delays on set. These allegations were reported by sources just days before the film’s premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Sources described Coppola’s behavior as old school towards women, claiming he pulled women onto his lap and attempted to kiss scantily clad extras during a nightclub scene, supposedly to set the mood.

Darren Demetre, an executive co-producer, defended Coppola, stating that the director, known for The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, only gave hugs and kisses on the cheek to create a welcoming atmosphere, and no complaints were made. He emphasized Coppola’s dedication to establishing the right club scene ambiance.

Crew members also described extensive delays, attributing them to Coppola’s unplanned approach and time spent in his trailer, sometimes smoking marijuana, causing hours of inactivity. They expressed frustration over the lack of a clear plan and the wasted time waiting for direction.

Demetre, who has worked with Coppola for 35 years, praised his ability to manage and deliver a large-scale independent film like Megalopolis on time and budget. Filmmaker Mike Figgis supported this view, highlighting Coppola’s commitment and creative vision, despite occasional clashes with actors like Shia LaBeouf, which he described as part of the filmmaking process.
