‘Getting better every day’: Shreyas Iyer shares health update after rib cage injury

India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer reassured fans he is recovering well after his recent injury.

Indian cricketer and ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer on Thursday shared a positive update on his recovery following the rib cage injury and ruptured spleen he sustained during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 24.

Taking to social media, Iyer wrote, “I’m currently in the recovery process and getting better every passing day. I’m deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I’ve received — it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts.”

The 30-year-old batter was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Sydney hospital after the on-field collision. He was moved out of the ICU on Tuesday (October 28), and his condition is now reported to be stable.

At a pre-match press conference on Tuesday, India’s T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav provided an encouraging update, saying, “God is with his side, he is recovering really well. Doctors are supporting him, and the BCCI is in full touch. He’ll recover soon and then we’ll take him home with us.”

Iyer, who has been one of India’s most consistent performers in limited-overs cricket, was named vice-captain for the ongoing series but had to withdraw midway after sustaining the injury. His absence has been felt in the middle order, though team management remains hopeful for his early return.

Fans and fellow cricketers have flooded social media with wishes for Iyer’s swift recovery, expressing optimism about his comeback to international cricket in the coming weeks.
