LS Polls Kashmiri Migrants In Jammu Udhampur No Longer Required To Fill ‘Form M’ To Vote

Jammu, PTI

The Election Commission has granted the demand of Kashmiri migrants from Jammu and Udhampur districts to simplify the voting process for them. In the past, they had to fill out ‘Form M’ for every election, causing inconvenience.

Now, they will be automatically assigned to special polling stations in their zones, removing the need for Form M. Additionally, those in Delhi and elsewhere can self-attest instead of getting a gazetted officer’s certification for Form M. However, they must carry their voter ID or other specified documents to vote at these stations. This change aims to make voting easier for Kashmiri migrants, aligning with the EC’s goal of inclusive electoral participation. This decision followed feedback from migrant groups, political parties, and the Chief Electoral Officer of Jammu and Kashmir. Leaders from the Kashmiri migrant community, including Ajay Bharti and Sanjay Dhar, applauded the decision and urged everyone to participate in the upcoming elections.
