The Madhya Pradesh Congress challenged the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to reveal the list of 2.58 lakh individuals, mostly from the Congress, who allegedly joined the saffron party, as claimed by BJP leaders on Sunday.

Former minister Narottam Mishra asserted on Saturday that over 2.58 lakh people, with 1.26 lakh joining on April 6 alone, had switched to the BJP in the state in the past three months, with many from the Congress. State Congress chief Jitu Patwari questioned the BJP’s transparency, pointing out that they only disclosed the names of 336 prominent leaders who joined, leaving out the bulk of 2.58 lakh workers.

Patwari accused the BJP of deceiving the public with false assertions and claimed that individuals linked to mafias involved in mining, sand, transport, and education, who conduct business with the government, have aligned with the BJP.

In response, state BJP spokesman Narendra Saluja listed Congress leaders who left the party after Patwari became state chief. Saluja mentioned names like former union minister Suresh Pachouri and others who recently joined the BJP. Patwari also directed questions to PM Modi, demanding answers regarding the delayed actions against those involved in the VYAPAM job recruitment scam and questioning the BJP’s unfulfilled promises, including the pledge of two crore jobs and guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) for wheat and paddy.
