The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) has raised concerns over the exclusion of sensitive topics from the 12th-grade political science syllabus of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Ajay Kamath, State Secretary of AIDSO, criticized the move, labeling it as an attack on education by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to Kamath, subjects such as Babri Masjid, Hindutva politics, and the Gujarat riots have been omitted from the syllabus in an undemocratic manner. He highlighted that the issue of Gujarat riots is notably absent from the lesson on ‘democratic rights,’ while the lesson on ‘Recent Developments in Indian Politics’ sidelines the Babri Masjid aspect in favor of topics related to Ram Janmabhoomi.

Furthermore, Kamath pointed out numerous corrections made throughout the text concerning the minority community, along with the omission of images depicting communal riots.

The AIDSO strongly condemns these amendments, asserting that they contradict the scientific, secular, and democratic values championed by the freedom fighters and the pioneers of the Renaissance movement. AIDSO demands the immediate reversal of these changes and the reinstatement of factual information into the curriculum.
