Sports Ministry Okays Mirabai Chanu’s Proposal To Train In Paris Ahead Of Olympic Games

The Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) granted approval on Monday for weightlifter Mirabai Chanu’s training proposal at La Ferte-Milon in Paris, in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games.

Chanu, who clinched a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics, will embark on her Paris training nearly a month prior to her Olympic event to acclimatize and gear up for the mega event, as per the Ministry’s release.

Additionally, the Ministry sanctioned financial support for hiring a Video Analyst for the world No.1 men’s doubles badminton pair, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. Furthermore, it approved equestrian player Anush Agarwalla’s proposal to participate in eight competitions and procure equipment for his horses, with TOPS covering various expenses including accommodation, entry fees, coach fees, and horse grooming costs.

The release also mentioned the approval of Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal’s request for financial assistance towards participation in two international competitions, including support staff expenses. The funding will encompass airfare, accommodation, coaching fees, and fees for physio/fitness coach/mental trainer under TOPS funding.

Moreover, other approved proposals included financial assistance for judoka Asmita Dey’s participation in the Grand Prix, Austria, and shooter Arjun Singh Cheema’s participation in the ISAS Dortmund Competition. Additionally, the extension of the contract for weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga’s physiotherapist and financial support for track athlete Amoj Jacob’s equipment procurement were also approved during the MOC meeting.
