Indian Railways Achieves Milestone With Vande Bharat Sleeper Trainset Unveiling

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Railways, marked a historic moment as he inaugurated the carbody structure of India’s groundbreaking Vande Bharat Sleeper train set. Manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) at its rail unit in Bangalore, the event witnessed the presence of officials from the Ministry of Railways, ICF, and BEML Limited, including Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy.

Describing it as a significant milestone for Indian Railways, Vaishnaw emphasized that the Vande Bharat Sleeper version will redefine commuter mobility and comfort with global standards in the near future. Crafted with high-grade Austenitic stainless steel, the car body structure integrates crashworthy elements into the crash buffers and couplers, ensuring stringent safety standards.

BEML’s meticulous design prioritizes both aesthetic appeal and functionality in the sleeper trains’ interiors, berths, and exteriors. Spearheading critical systems development, BEML ensures seamless integration and optimal performance throughout the train set, emphasizing its commitment to quality and precision.

With 16 cars per train set, the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains boast a maximum operational speed of 160 kmph, offering passenger capacity for 823 berths across various classes. This unveiling signifies India’s journey toward introducing sleeper variants within the acclaimed Vande Bharat platform, emphasizing excellence and innovation in rail transportation.
