Drinking Water Scarcity Despite Tumbe Dam Full

Must read

Mangaluru

The Tumbe dam which supplies water to the Mangalore Municipal Corporation, is full with six feet of water and the excess water is being released. They pump enough water for the entire city from the dam every day. But in many parts of the city there is scarcity of drinking water. This is the brainchild of the Smart City Mangalore Metropolis. Out of the 60 wards, 30 percent of the wards have water problems at one point or the other, the Corporation members say. At present, there is enough water in the dam to overflow, but there is no reasoning as to why water does not reach houses properly. 160 MLD (Million Liters Per Day) water is being pumped from Tumbe Dam. But by the time the flood reaches the city, it is down to 120 MLD. Because the petty thieves sneaking under the blanket of law have stolen the main pipeline on a large scale. Due to more than 110 such illegal connections, the city is deficient in 40 MLD water every day. This is not a recent problem, but the rate of water wastage has increased in recent times.
