On the occasion of Kannada superstar Darshan’s birthday, fans were treated to a surprising announcement. Media House Studio, known for producing hits like Yajamana and Kranti featuring the Challenging Star, revealed that Darshan’s 59th film would delve into the epic tale of “Sindhoora Lakshmana.” Interestingly, a project centered around the early 20th-century freedom fighter and starring Darshan was initially unveiled in 2020, complete with a private muhurat. However, despite the initial buzz, the project helmed by producer Umapathi Gowda stalled after the announcement phase.
The directorial reins of the film remain in the capable hands of Tharun Sudhir, while Media House Studio, now under the leadership of Shylaja Nag, takes charge of production. A striking poster was unveiled alongside the announcement, featuring a silhouette of Darshan against the backdrop of a towering rifle. In the image, Darshan’s character is depicted wielding both a rifle and an axe, embodying the spirit of the legendary freedom fighter.
Sindhura Lakshmana, the protagonist of the tale, was a renowned revolutionary hailing from the Jath taluk of Sangli district (now in Maharashtra) during the tumultuous early 20th century. His daring exploits against British oppression have immortalized him in the annals of history, earning him a reputation akin to that of Robin Hood. Notably, a 1977 film titled Veera Sindhoora Lakshmana, starring N Basavaraj and directed by Hunsur Krishnamurthy, further solidified his legacy on the silver screen. Tharun Sudhir’s familial ties to the earlier film, with his father Sudhir having portrayed a significant role and also enacted the character of Lakshmana in professional theater, add a personal dimension to the project.
Amidst Darshan’s ongoing commitments, including the filming of Devil under the direction of Prakash Veer (Milana Prakash), Media House Studio is yet to disclose the timeline and schedule for the new endeavor.
