A history-sheeter duped Kerala Police in Hosdurg on Monday night by posing as a judge, but his charade ended when suspicions arose, revealing nine cases against him in the state capital. The incident started with a call to Hosdurg Police, claiming a judge’s vehicle from the Pathanamthitta court needed assistance due to a snag. Responding to the call, the police transported him to a hotel. He later claimed a job-related threat to his life, leading to the provision of security. The imposter then insisted on being driven to the nearby railway station, citing a train to catch. Growing suspicious, the police asked for his identity card, and upon refusal, took him to the Hosdurg police station. Under sustained questioning, he confessed. Identified as Shamnad Shoukat, 39, the conman from Thiruvananthapuram recounted a quarrel on a bus to Kasargod, leading to his expulsion. Seizing the opportunity, he asked a local friend to inform the police of a ‘judge’ waiting by the road. Both Shoukat and his accomplice were arrested and are set to appear in court on Wednesday. He admitted to having nine cases registered in his home district. The police continue their investigation, adhering to legal procedures.
