HDMC To Launch Special Drive To Clear Footpaths

Finally, the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has decided to take swift action against footpath encroachments in Hubli-Dharwad.
HDMC Commissioner Ishwar Ullagaddi has decided to launch a special drive jointly with the police department. Soon, the HDMC will issue an ultimatum for footpath clearance, and later it will launch a drive with adequate staff to remove encroachments and seize things. According to sources, elected representatives and others took officials to task for their lethargic attitude towards keeping footpaths free for pedestrian use.

Ishwar Ullagaddi said, during a recently held meeting with officials and elected representatives including MLAs, stakeholders have instructed us to initiate stern action against footpath encroachers. Also, the HDMC control room has been receiving complaints about footpath encroachments by commercial establishments as well as fruit and vegetable vendors.”Looking at the increasing complaints and also instructions from the elected representatives we have decided to launch a mass drive of clearing footpaths encroached in twin cities. “Already plans are being chalked out for a special drive. The drive will be launched jointly by HDMC and police. In a couple of days, through a public announcement system, mounted vehicle announcements will be made in twin cities, later the drive will be launched, he added.
Sources in the HDMC added that its staffers will remove the encroachments on footpaths and seize the things. The officials will also send notices to commercial establishments encroaching on footpaths before initiating legal action.
