The state government has taken all necessary measures to prevent people from dying due to drought. Also, a request has been submitted to the Center to increase the man-days to 150 days under the NREGA scheme. However, Minister Krishna Byregowda said that no positive response to our request has been received from the Center yet.

On behalf of the government, Krishnabyre Gowda replied to the debate raised by members Kota Srinivasa Pujari, N Ravikumar, Nirani Hanumanthappa Rudrappa and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy under Rule 68 on taking precautionary measures to deal with the drought situation in the state in the Legislative Council proceedings.

The state government has already taken all necessary measures to manage the drought. There have also been cases of people migrating to other places due to drought. In order to prevent this, one step before us is to increase the NREGA man days from 100 to 150. This is because the law states that as soon as a drought is declared, more than 50 man days should be given under the NREGA scheme. However, although we have appealed on September 23, only the central government has not given an answer in this regard, he lamented.
