Energy Minister KJ George said that the government will provide infrastructure for the agricultural pump sets of 4 lakh farmers of the state.
He answered the questions of MLAs during the question and answer session of the Legislature session on Thursday.
Infrastructure will be provided by power supply companies for pump sets located within a registered radius of 500 meters. For the pump sets beyond 500 meters, central government has given subsidy of 30 percent and state government has given 50 percent subsidy and steps have been taken to install solar pump sets. For IP sets registered after September 22, 2023, there was a rule that the infrastructure should be done by the farmers themselves under self-execution. He said that a proposal has been submitted to the Cabinet to change this and provide basic facilities to the government.
7 hours electricity is being provided to agriculture in the state. Due to lack of rain in the current year, the amount of electricity generated from the water source has decreased. Along with this, the electricity demand of the state increased from 8000 mega watt to 16500 mega watt, and there was a shortage of electricity. Power is procured through contract from outside states. Along with this, the state’s thermal power plants are also producing more electricity, and currently there is no shortage of electricity in the state. Minister KJ George clarified that more power is available than required.
