Director Of USA Dharwad Research Center, B.D. Biradar Highlighted Technology Benefits For Farmers

Must read

At a workshop on drone technology in agriculture held at JSS Engineering College, Kengeri Uttarahalli Main Road, the Director of USA Dharwad Research Center, B.D. Biradar, highlighted the transformative potential of technology in addressing challenges faced by farmers. Biradar emphasized that integrating technology into agriculture could offer solutions to various issues encountered by farmers. He expressed optimism that the adoption of technical knowledge could make the agricultural sector more profitable. Drawing a historical perspective, he noted that the country’s food production, which was 15 million tonnes at the beginning of independence, has now increased almost sevenfold. Professor J. Adinarayana from IIT Mumbai added to the discussion, pointing out that despite the significant increase in production volume over the years, the income of farmers hasn’t seen a proportional rise. He attributed this stagnation to the rising costs associated with traditional cultivation methods, which involve considerable human resources for tasks like ploughing, weeding, and spraying. Adinarayana suggested that embracing drone technology and leveraging solar energy could bring about substantial changes in the agriculture sector. The Program Coordinator, Associate Professor Dr. Pradeep H.K., shared insights into the workshop, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in fostering technological advancements in agriculture. The event was attended by notable figures, including Dr. Bhimasena Soragaon (Principal, Bangalore JSSATE), Professor Dr. S.R. Sai (USA Dharwad Agricultural Engineer Department), Dr. Pradeep (Professor of JSSATE Computer Science Engineering), and Dr. Mallikarjuna (HOD of Computer Science Engineering Department, JSSATE).
