On Sunday, VP Jagdeep Dhankhar lauded the positive transformations occurring in India, as it advances in the realm of human rights, positioning itself as a ‘Role Model’ for the world. Delivering the keynote address at the Human Rights Day celebrations at Bharat Mandapam, he declared that no part of the world is experiencing such flourishing prosperity in human rights as India. Dhankhar emphasized that India’s Amrit-Kaal, the age of nectar, has evolved into its Gaurav-Kaal, an era of pride, primarily due to the flourishing of human rights and values.

The Vice President highlighted the deep commitment ingrained in India’s civilizational ethos and constitutional principles towards respecting, safeguarding, and nurturing human rights. He asserted that India serves as a global example in nurturing, promoting, and flourishing human rights, considering it a cornerstone of democracy. Dhankhar acknowledged the collaboration of all three branches of the state Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary in fostering human rights.

Addressing concerns about the recent trend of political freebies, he cautioned against the distortion of expenditure priorities and the undermining of macroeconomic stability. He advocated for the empowerment of human minds and resources rather than pockets. Dhankhar also urged global entities to scrutinize India’s governance model, emphasizing its transparency, accountability, and merit-based approach free from corruption and favoritism. He identified corruption as the greatest danger to human rights but expressed satisfaction that India has implemented governance mechanisms to neutralize corruption in power corridors. Additionally, the Vice President released NHRC publications during the event, highlighting the government’s affirmative implementation of inclusive policies in alleviating poverty and providing economic opportunities, quality healthcare, and education – the pillars of a robust human rights framework.
