State Human Rights Commission Chairman, Ny. L. Narayanaswamy, expressed regret that social justice has not been fully achieved in the country yet. He made these remarks at the inauguration of the ‘Odalu Trust’ during an event at Ramagovinda Theater in Ramakrishna Nagar. During his address, Narayanaswamy reflected on the challenges faced in achieving social justice and highlighted the ongoing issues related to caste, economic disparities, and the need for equal sharing. He emphasized the importance of understanding the distribution of financial wealth and advocated for a more inclusive approach to social and economic justice. Narayanaswamy pointed out that despite progress, a significant number of people in the country are still living in poverty, and wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few individuals. He argued that achieving social justice requires a detailed analysis of demographic data and advocated for reservation policies based on the actual representation of various groups, including women. In a discussion on Women’s Reservation: Challenges and Possibilities as part of the ‘Vichara Manthan’ event, KSOU Professor Kavita Rai addressed the dual role of women as participants and victims in the political landscape. She highlighted the historical challenges faced by the Women’s Reservation Bill and its constant controversy and lack of progress due to the perceived lack of political willpower. The event shed light on the complexities and obstacles associated with achieving social justice and gender equality in the Indian context, encouraging further dialogue and awareness on these critical issues.
