In a tragic incident in South Plainfield, New Jersey, a 23-year-old Indian-American man, Om Brahmbhatt, has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of three family members. The victims are identified as Dilipkumar Brahmbhatt (72), Bindu Brahmbhatt (72), and their son Yashkumar Brahmbhatt (38). Authorities responded to a residence on Coppola Drive in South Plainfield after receiving a report of shots fired at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of Dilipkumar and Bindu Brahmbhatt, who had sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Yashkumar Brahmbhatt, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Om Brahmbhatt, who resided with the victims, was taken into custody. According to the South Plainfield Police Department complaint, the suspect confessed to shooting his grandparents while they slept in their bedroom. He then proceeded to a back bedroom where he shot his uncle multiple times. The crime was committed with a handgun that Om claimed to have purchased online. Om Brahmbhatt has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is currently held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center. During his court appearance, Om Brahmbhatt appeared calm, and reports suggest that he was the one who called 911 after the murders. When questioned by officers about the perpetrator, Om reportedly responded, It might be me. The motive behind the tragic incident is yet to be fully understood, and the community is left in shock by the loss of three lives in this devastating event.
