In a devastating incident in Siddarama Colony, Dharwad, a 16-year-old boy lost his life to electrocution while playing cricket on Saturday. The victim, identified as Shreyas Shinnura, a tenth-grade student, came in contact with an electric wire while attempting to catch the ball. Shreyas’s friend, who bravely tried to rescue him, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. The tragic incident unfolded on the upstairs of a house where the boys were engaged in a game of cricket on Friday evening. Despite being swiftly taken to a private hospital, Shreyas succumbed to his injuries. Ashoka Shinnura, the grieving father, revealed that Shreyas, his only son, had returned from school around 5 p.m. After spending some time on his mobile, he went out to play cricket with his friend. Ashoka Shinnura recounted the heartbreaking moment when people called him after the accident. Upon reaching the scene, he found Shreyas injured with wounds from his hand to abdomen. The father expressed profound sorrow, stating, We rushed him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he couldn’t survive. The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the electrocution, highlighting the importance of ensuring safety measures to prevent such tragic incidents during recreational activities.
