The Israeli army has concluded its week-long presence at Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza, withdrawing from the premises on the first day of the temporary humanitarian cease-fire between Hamas and Israel, expected to last for four days. A Palestinian security source, requesting anonymity, revealed that Israeli forces detonated facilities within the complex before their withdrawal. The destruction included power generators, oxygen pumps, and radiology equipment. The Israeli army claimed on Friday that they had destroyed an underground network of terrorist tunnels and tunnel shafts beneath the hospital, alleging that the site served as a Hamas hideout. This move, however, left approximately 250 patients and staff stranded at the hospital, which is currently non-operational due to severe shortages of power, water, and medical supplies, according to a UN report issued on Thursday. The withdrawal from Al Shifa Hospital marks a development in the ongoing conflict, with the cease-fire providing a brief respite for humanitarian efforts in the region. The situation remains tense, and the impact on medical facilities adds urgency to the need for sustained humanitarian support in Gaza.
