India’s Power Consumption Sees Significant Growth In October

New Delhi

India’s power consumption has shown robust growth, with a nearly 22% increase in electricity demand in October compared to the same month in the previous year. The country’s power consumption reached 138.94 billion units (BU) in October, driven by festivities and increased economic activities. This surge in electricity demand follows a trend of improving power consumption throughout the year. In the April-October period of this fiscal year, power consumption grew by 9.4% compared to the same period last year, reaching approximately 984.39 billion units. Peak power demand also witnessed an increase, with a peak of nearly 241 GW during this fiscal’s April-October period, reflecting the country’s expanding electricity needs. Industry experts attribute this growth to favorable weather conditions, festive activities, and an uptick in economic activities. The demand for electricity had been affected earlier in the year due to unseasonal rainfall, but it rebounded during the summer months and continued to grow into the festive season. The power sector’s ability to meet the increasing demand and ensure a stable power supply will be crucial for sustaining this positive trend in power consumption.
