In a recent case Sunil Kumar Kasavanahalli was defrauded of Rs 10,000 by a fraudulent vehicle renting company.

According to the victim, his search for vehicle rental services for a trip to Sabarimala led him to contact the company. Despite receiving numerous calls from various travel companies after his initial inquiry, he was drawn in by an individual offering a competitive rate, providing detailed information and even sending pictures of the vehicle.

In order to secure the booking, the scammer insisted on an advance payment, claiming that the reservation could not be confirmed without it. Falling victim to the scheme, the victim transferred the requested sum of Rs 10,000 the next morning via a QR code provided by the fraudster. However, following the transaction, the perpetrator’s phone became inactive, with all previous communication erased.

This incident serves as a stark reminder for individuals engaging in online transactions, especially when dealing with unfamiliar or lesser-known service providers. With the prevalence of online fraud posing a significant threat, it is crucial for users to exercise vigilance and verify the credibility of entities before making any financial commitments. Implementing cautionary measures, such as conducting thorough research, verifying the authenticity of businesses, and using secure payment methods, can help mitigate the risks associated with online transactions and prevent falling victim to fraudulent schemes.
