Design Craft, a social enterprise dedicated to empowering artisan designer graduates of Somaiya Kala Vidya in Kutch, is thrilled to announce its inaugural exhibition in Bengaluru, India. This three-day extravaganza, themed Festive Edit, is set to showcase the exquisite craftsmanship of nine artisan designers, presenting their freshly crafted collections, including Ajrakh Block Print, Kutchi Weaving, Ilkal Weaving, and Bandhani. Somaiya Kala Vidya, a renowned design education institution for traditional artisans, has nurtured a new generation of creative talents who are now ready to unveil their unique creations to the world. The Festive Edit exhibition is a platform for these artisan designers to showcase their skills, blending tradition with innovation, and bringing forth a vibrant display of handwoven and handcrafted textiles. Highlights of the exhibition include: 1. Ajrakh Block Print: Taybaah Khatri and Ammar Khatri have embarked on a journey to contemporize the timeless art of Bandhani, infusing it with modern colors and designs. 2. Kutchi Weaving: Nanji Marvada’s meticulous Kutchi weaving work promises to be a rare gem, showcasing the artistry and heritage of this craft. 3. Ilkal Weaving: Hailing from Kamatagi, Karnataka, an artisan designer will display the rich heritage of Ilkal weaving, one of the oldest crafts of the region. 4. Bandhani: Sohel Khatri and his illusionistic Ajrakh collection invite visitors to explore the theme of Seer, while Vasim Khatri’s Golden Moments collection sparks contemplation of cherished life moments. 5. Abstract Ajrakh: Khalid Amin’s abstract approach to Ajrakh mirrors the work of Jackson Pollock, offering a unique perspective on this traditional craft. 6. Extra Weft Technique: Hansraj Vankar has worked tirelessly to develop new motifs through the extra weft technique in his collection titled Monsoon.
