Drought Affects Cattle Rearing In Manvi Taluk

Must read

Manvi
The lack of monsoon rain and canal water issues have posed challenges for cattle rearing in the taluk. Even the Goshala, established five years ago by Manvi Mitra Mandali Seva Trust, has been affected by the drought. The scarcity of fodder has become a pressing issue for cows. With problems related to drinking water and fodder, farmers in rural areas are relocating their cows to the Goshala. Within the last three months, the number of cows in the cowshed has risen to 150. At present, the Goshala requires two tonnes of fodder every day, and Trust officials are grappling to secure enough. To address this, they leased a five-acre piece of land to cultivate fodder. Unfortunately, due to water problems, fodder could not be grown on the farm this time. In previous years, enough fodder was procured and stored for six months in advance. However, this year, obtaining fodder has become a challenge, with only a month’s supply of corn husks remaining. Trust President R. Basavaraja Shetty expressed concerns that if this supply runs out, it will become increasingly difficult to care for the cows.
