Speeding and negligent driving by motorists are contributing to a troubling trend of accidents in the city, with an average of 13 accidents happening daily, resulting in at least two fatalities. This grim reality was unveiled through an analysis conducted by city traffic police based on accident cases registered up to the end of September. By the end of September, the city had recorded 3,706 accident cases, resulting in the loss of 651 lives and leaving 3,155 individuals injured. Among these casualties, some have suffered life-changing consequences due to severe head injuries, losing limbs, or sustaining other debilitating injuries. The outskirts of the city are particularly prone to accidents, with areas like Peenya, Yeshwantpur, and Jalahalli on Tumkur Road reporting a higher incidence of accidents. The northern, southern, and western sections of the city, which include areas like the Airport Flyover, Electronic City Flyover, and Kengeri, also made it to the list of accident-prone areas, with an increased mortality rate. Furthermore, 59 accident blackspots in the city have become hotspots for accidents resulting in fatalities. Tumkur Road, in particular, witnessed 1,141 accidents with 236 casualties. High-traffic locations like Palanahalli Gate, Hunasamaranahalli Junction, and Air Force Junction on the International Airport Road are popular accident sites. Additionally, 676 accidents occurred in Yelahanka, Chikkajala, Hebbal, Hennur, and RT Nagar police stations, with 152 fatalities.
