Eajipura Flyover Project Faces Setbacks: Construction Delays Inflate Costs By Rs 93 Crore

Must read

The construction of Bangalore’s second longest flyover, the Eajipura flyover, linking the Koramangala 100 ft. Road from Inner Ring Road Junction to Kendriya Sadan Junction, has faced significant delays, resulting in a substantial increase in project costs by Rs 93 crore. Initially awarded to the Simplex Infrastructure Company, the project aimed to alleviate traffic congestion along the 2.5 km stretch of the Easypura Main Road.

According to the terms of the contract, construction was scheduled to commence on 4th May 2017, with an expected completion date of 4. However, despite the passage of five years since the project’s inception, only half of the work has been accomplished, prompting the Urban Development Department to rescind the tender issued to Simplex Company in March 2022, as per the decision on the 3rd.

The High Court responded to a public interest petition filed by Adinarayan Shetty of Koramangala, highlighting the delays in the project. In its verdict on 17th February 2022, the court instructed the authorities to cancel the contract within a week and take necessary steps to expedite the pending work.

In light of the repeated failures to meet the project timeline, the Simplex company has been instructed to pay a penalty of Rs.10.16 crore. To ensure the project’s completion as per regulations, the Chief Commissioner of BBMP proposed the forfeiture of the security deposit, contract cancellation, and the adoption of necessary measures to conclude the remaining construction work. Consequently, the government opted to cancel the contract, signaling the need for a fresh approach to swiftly complete the pending work. As of now, the project is slated for completion by 2025.
