Dhaka

Dengue fever has taken a devastating toll in Bangladesh this year, with more than 900 reported deaths out of 187,725 confirmed cases, according to data released by the health department. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided grim statistics, revealing that the fatalities occurred in various months, including 316 deaths in September, 342 in August, and 204 in July. The number of dengue cases in September alone was 63,917, following 71,976 in August and 43,854 in July.

The country typically experiences a surge in dengue cases during the monsoon season, from June to September, as it provides favorable breeding conditions for the Aedes mosquito, which transmits the virus. Bangladesh is considered a high-risk region for dengue, and efforts to combat the disease include mosquito control measures, public awareness campaigns, and improved healthcare infrastructure to manage cases.

It’s important to note that dengue fever is a preventable and treatable disease, and early diagnosis and appropriate medical care can significantly reduce the risk of severe illness and death. Efforts to control mosquito breeding sites and educate the public on preventive measures are crucial in mitigating the impact of dengue outbreaks.
