South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s approval rating has seen a modest rise to 36.7%, largely attributed to favorable public opinions stemming from his recent overseas trip to attend prominent summits involving the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the G20.

A recent survey conducted by Realmeter, which included 2,515 eligible voters, took place from September 4 to 8. The poll revealed that positive evaluations of President Yoon’s performance increased by 1.3 percentage points compared to the previous week. Conversely, disapproval of his performance decreased by 1.2 percentage points to 59.9%. Since August, Yoon’s approval rating had been relatively steady in the mid-30% range.

Analysts suggest that Yoon’s overseas trips, which initially posed challenges to his approval rating, have since turned into a source of positive momentum. Notably, the President’s recent visits to Indonesia and India, where he participated in significant summits, have contributed to this upward trend.

During his trip, Yoon engaged in diplomatic efforts and represented South Korea at key international gatherings. This included his attendance at ASEAN-related meetings and the G20 Summit, where global leaders addressed various pressing issues. The rise in Yoon’s approval rating underscores the significant role that international diplomacy and statesmanship can play in shaping public perceptions and boosting a leader’s domestic standing. As Yoon returned to South Korea following these overseas engagements, his administration may seek to build upon this positive momentum in the months ahead, particularly in addressing domestic policy challenges and priorities.
