Ahead of the two-day G20 Leaders’ Summit in Delhi, security measures in the national capital have been significantly ramped up, and traffic restrictions have been put into effect.Starting early Friday morning, police personnel have been conducting vehicle checks in various areas of Central Delhi and surrounding regions. A state-of-the-art control room, equipped with 5,000 strategically placed CCTV cameras across the city, is being used to closely monitor city developments. The control room receives visual feeds district-wise and operates with two security teams working in shifts to ensure continuous, round-the-clock surveillance. To manage traffic flow, non-essential vehicles were redirected to the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways and alternative routes from the city borders beginning at midnight on Thursday. This restriction applies to Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs), and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs), except for goods vehicles transporting Essential Commodities such as milk, vegetables, fruits, and medical supplies with valid ‘No Entry Permissions.’Delhi Police are receiving support from a force of over 50,000 security personnel, K9 dog squads, and mounted police units. They remain on high alert to prevent any potential incidents, with increased patrolling efforts and additional checkpoints at critical installations. To ensure the safety of G20 delegates during their visit to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial at Rajghat in central Delhi, police have collaborated with civic agencies to address the issue of monkeys and dogs in the area. Measures have been taken to mitigate their presence, including the deployment of catchers for monkeys, dogs, and even snake catchers in the nearby jungle area. These catchers will continuously monitor the Rajghat vicinity and provide updates to security personnel to ensure a safe environment for the visiting delegates.
