In a distressing case, a man is alleged to have posed as the director of an upcoming Kannada film and deceived a woman by extracting money from her under the pretense of offering her a role in the movie. Identified as Santhosh, he reportedly duped the woman, Bhavya, out of Rs 10,000 after narrating the film’s storyline and guaranteeing her a role. However, Bhavya grew suspicious when Santhosh demanded additional funds from her, prompting her to file a complaint with the police. Bhavya shared her experience, stating, I met Santhosh through Chandru, a make-up artist in the film industry. Santhosh promised me a film role and took money from me. Later, I became skeptical about his intentions and requested a refund, but he refused. Santhosh claimed to be the director of the Kannada film ‘Rangina Raate’ and assured Bhavya of her inclusion in the project. However, it has been revealed that Santhosh had only played a minor role as a thief in the film, which was actually directed by Arumugam. Arumugam expressed frustration at the situation, stating that Santhosh’s actions were damaging his reputation. Santhosh was a supporting actor who played the role of a thief in the film. He is tarnishing my image. The film has already been released, and information about it is readily available online. The victim should have verified these details before giving him money, Arumugam, the actual director of ‘Rangina Raate,’ stated. This case serves as a reminder to exercise caution when dealing with individuals claiming to offer opportunities in the film industry, as scams and fraudulent activities are not uncommon.
