Should Have Announced Relief before Aerial Survey: Oppn Leader R. Ashoka

Opposition leader R. Ashoka slammed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for surveying flood damage without first declaring relief measures.

Karnataka Opposition leader R. Ashoka criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for conducting an aerial survey of flood-affected districts in North Karnataka without first announcing compensation for victims. Addressing a press conference, Ashoka alleged that the Chief Minister “fearfully viewed the devastation from a helicopter” while failing to reveal any relief packages for damaged crops, homes, or schools. He charged that the state treasury is empty and the government is preparing to shift blame to the Centre.

Ashoka said Siddaramaiah should have immediately convened a team of ministers, appointed nodal officers, and ensured proper food supply at rehabilitation centres before embarking on an aerial tour. “This government has not responded properly to the suffering of victims,” he remarked.

Turning to internal Congress affairs, Ashoka claimed “signs of an October revolution” were emerging within the ruling party, hinting at possible instability and leadership change. He suggested early elections if the Congress government collapses, stating that “in two and a half years, the government has not taken off.”

The BJP leader also targeted the ongoing caste survey, calling it unconstitutional and alleging it prioritises caste and religion over genuine socio-educational data. He warned that poorly trained staff were being threatened with suspension and predicted the final report would be “thrown into the trash bin.”

Ashoka further attacked the state for Bengaluru’s pothole-ridden roads, citing a recent fatal accident and accusing the government of neglecting basic infrastructure despite repeated public outcry.
