Development is possible only through decentralization of power. Local level problems cannot be developed from remote areas. Whatever may be the problems at the local level, we will be able to find immediate solutions to them, said District In-charge and Medical Education Minister Dr. Sharanprakash Patil.
He was speaking at a felicitation ceremony for the newly elected Presidents and Vice-Presidents of gram panchayats for the second term in gram panchayats organised at Panchamukhi Ganadhala village in Raichur Rural assembly constituency. The then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi introduced decentralisation of power by amending the 73/74th amendment so that the government could reach the last citizen of the society. It was the Congress government that laid the foundation for zilla panchayats, taluk panchayats and gram panchayats. We will work to give more strength to the gram panchayat. When a non-Congress government came, there was not much development at the gram panchayat level. When the BJP government was in power in the state, it had postponed elections to Zilla Panchayats and Taluk panchayats from time to time.
Whenever the Congress party comes to power, it strives to strengthen the local level governance. Local government is being given top priority. It is our government that has brought reservation for women, especially in panchayats, he said. Speaking on the occasion, Raichur Rural MLA Basanagouda Daddal said that the Congress government has come to power in the state. Five guarantees are fulfilled. The Congress government is a government that does what it says. The cabinet will work continuously for the development of the state and fulfil the promises made, he said.
