Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Monday remembered former MLA Dr R.B. Shiriyannavar as a simple, gracious and rare politician, and paid tribute to his contributions to public life.
Speaking during a condolence resolution in the Legislative Assembly on the first day of the special session, Shivakumar recalled Shiriyannavar’s political journey and his connect with people in his constituency.
“Dr R.B. Shiriyannavar’s death is an irreparable loss. He was a simple person, a gracious individual and a rare politician,” the Chief Minister said.
Shiriyannavar was born in Bagalkot district and entered the Legislative Assembly after being elected from the Navalgund constituency in 2004. Shivakumar said the former legislator had earned considerable goodwill among people through his people-oriented work and service to the constituency.
The Chief Minister said Shiriyannavar’s approach to politics and his simplicity had earned him respect among people and colleagues.
“Our political parties may have been different. I was a member of the Legislative Assembly along with him,” Shivakumar said while recalling his association with the former MLA.
He said the death of Shiriyannavar had caused an irreparable loss to his family, friends, followers and those associated with his public life.
The Chief Minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength for Shiriyannavar’s relatives, friends and followers to overcome their grief.
Members of the Assembly also observed the condolence proceedings and paid their respects to the former legislator.
Shivakumar said Shiriyannavar’s contribution to public service would be remembered by those who had worked with him and benefited from his efforts.
