Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Saturday said Indian doctors have earned immense trust across the world, with many leading medical professionals in Western countries being Indians. He was speaking after inaugurating the KLE College and Hospital in Hubballi.
Joshi praised the KLE Society for establishing the medical college and hospital in Hubballi and said the institution would contribute significantly to the development of the region. He highlighted the role of Indian professionals in the global healthcare sector and said India has a young population at a time when several countries are facing an ageing population.
The Union Minister also spoke about India’s growing position in the pharmaceutical sector. He said the country had emerged as a global pharmaceutical hub and was moving towards greater self-reliance in technology and manufacturing. Referring to developments in the semiconductor sector, Joshi said India had progressed from manufacturing relatively simple consumer products to producing advanced technologies and chips.
Joshi also referred to the government’s efforts to address Left Wing Extremism. He said Naxalism had once affected 126 districts across the country and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government with taking steps to tackle the issue. Speaking about the expansion of medical education.
The minister said institutions such as KLE would further strengthen medical education and healthcare services in North Karnataka. The establishment of the new medical college and hospital in Hubballi is expected to provide additional opportunities for students pursuing medical education while also expanding access to healthcare services in the region.
Joshi said the country now has 751 medical colleges and 22 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He added that India currently has around 1.37 lakh medical seats, describing the expansion as a major transformation in the medical education and healthcare sector.
